2020年03月於美國醫學會期刊(JAMA)所發表的最新研究顯示,新冠肺炎輕症患者之病房內,87%之採檢點呈現新冠病毒陽性反應(15/18)*。表示當病人入住後,病房內絕大部分的環境表面將受到這些高風險微生物所汙染。
根據統計,若一位病人所入住之病房並未經過適當的清消流程,此病人有50%的風險機率,會遭受到與前一位病人相同之病原所感染*。包含床欄、床旁桌、電燈開關、按鈕、以及各類移動式設備,都可能藏有病原,進而造成病人之間、甚至是醫護人員之間的交叉感染。
因此若欲打斷環境中致病原之傳染鏈,除了有適當的手部衛生之外,也需搭配有效的環境表面清潔/消毒作業及品質監測流程。

國際各大學會,皆針對MRSA及C. difficile等危險致病原,或是開刀房等高風險區域,提出了如何預防醫療照護相關感染(HAI)之相關措施,包含了環境例行清潔監測相關建議。而美國疾病管制與預防中心(CDC),也鼓勵醫療院所設立一套環境清潔與監測計劃來提升高接觸區域之環境清潔成效,以及確保品質管制與改善。
